Pet Insurance for the Miniature Pinscher

The Miniature Pinscher was first discovered in Germany in the 1800s. Their main job was to hunt small vermin and when breeders realized how good they were, they tried to breed them smaller and smaller to fit into smaller spaces. Unfortunately, that resulted in horrible disfigurement. They stopped that trend and by 1900 the breed was back to being a healthy breed. The breed was recognized by the American  Kennel Club in 1929 and you can still see the breed in the show ring every year in the Toy Group.

While they are not bred for smallness anymore, they are still quite a small breed. They stand between ten and 12.5 inches tall and weigh between eight and ten pounds. They are extremely energetic and busy, so they definitely need a job to do every day. Some good ways to entertain an energetic Miniature Pinscher include puzzle games, treat dispensers, fetch, playdates with other energetic dogs, trips to the dog park, and teaching tricks or agility. A yard to play in would also be a good idea.

These dogs are stubborn and independent, so they may need more training that other dog breeds, as they are not as eager to please. They can also be reserved toward strangers and aggressive to other dogs. And because they are inquisitive and bold, they may chase after animals or follow their curiosity in other ways that could get them into trouble.

This curiosity could lead to accidents and injuries the dog owner wouldn’t be able to plan for. Pet insurance can help give pet owners the peace of mind that if their pet becomes injured, they are covered for the proceeding vet visit. Pet insurance can also help offset the costs of treating common illnesses in this breed, such as heart defects (such as a murmur or an enlarged heart), Legg-Perthes (a degenerative disorder of the joint), and hypothyroidism (an insufficient production of the thyroid hormone).

Miniature Pinschers have a short sleek coat that requires hardly any upkeep. Their coat can be red, black, or tan. They live to be between twelve and fourteen years old.
